Title : Canon Laws Regarding Female Military Commanders up to the Time of Gratian: Some Texts and Their Historical Contexts [The author analyzes a canon law text by Bonizo de Sutri which criticizes women who lead military expeditions. Hay suggests that this in part refers to Matilda of Tuscany's strong military support of the pope.
